Where do your tax-free donations go?

Let's start with the end result:
An Adoptable Dachshund Who Is Completely Healthy!

When a Dachshund comes to our rescue group, we do much more than just spay or neuter and provide a rabies vaccine. We test for heartworms and treat if necessary.  All dogs who are heartworm negative are on regular heartworm preventative.  We make sure dogs are given all vaccines, dewormer to prevent digestive parasites, check for general health, treat any illness that may be present, spay/neuter, address any other surgical needs that may need treatment. Sometimes the dogs are in great shape and have no further needs, but it is not uncommon to have to deal with the results of poor nutrition, flea/tick problems, or other treatable conditions.

We often need to provide dental services for our rescued Dachshunds. This can range from simple cleaning to coping with oral infections and major extractions. We wouldn't consider a dog "fully vetted" without taking care of oral health. As anyone knows both from their dogs and from their own dental experiences, that kind of care is not inexpensive.

Dachshunds can be victims of disc or back injury. When that is the case, we provide surgical intervention for our rescues on an emergency basis. Fortunately this does not happen often, but when it does, the procedure and follow-up care usually exceeds $3,500 dollars!

This list is by no means all-inclusive; other things come up and need to be cared for in order to know that every Dachshund Lovers of Texas dog is truly fully-vetted and is in the best shape possible before going into adoption.

As you may imagine, this costs far more than the small fee we charge to help offset these expenses.

That's where donations come in; these precious Dachshunds depend on your donations to receive the care they deserve.

All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donations go to the care of the rescued Dachshunds. This is important - many charities take a portion of the money they receive for administrative costs, staff salaries, facility expenses, etc.
